Cake Serving Size Guide: How Many People Does a Cake Feed?
How big a cake do you need? It comes down to your guest count and how the cake is cut. Here is a rough guide, and the simplest answer: tell us your number and we size it exactly.
A rough serving guide
As an approximate starting point, with party-size slices:
- 6-inch round — about 8 to 12.
- 8-inch round — about 16 to 24.
- 10-inch round — about 30 to 38.
- Two tiers (6 + 8) — about 24 to 30.
- Three tiers (6 + 8 + 10) — about 50 to 75.
Wedding slices are usually smaller than party slices, so the same cake serves more at a formal reception than at a casual party.
How custom cakes are sized
You do not need to do this math. Share your final headcount and Stephanie tiers and sizes the cake to serve it cleanly, at a scale that suits your venue.
When to add a dessert table
For very large events, a display cake plus a dessert table or a sheet cake for the back of the house serves everyone without an oversized centerpiece. More in tiered vs sheet cakes.
